After working in the public school system for quite a few years, I saw the need for additional training to better meet the needs of my students with ASD. Many of the traditional approaches were not making the meaningful impact that I was hoping to make. I already had my Master’s Degree in Special Education and went back to school to earn my BCBA. I was fortunate to then be able to implement ABA techniques in my classroom and see results quickly. I then used those skills to teach other educators throughout the district.
I have now worked with children with disabilities for over twenty years. I currently am taking on private clients in the home setting as well as working as an Autism Consultant for a local school district.
My specific training includes, but is not limited to:
ABA, Social Thinking, Facing Your Fears, PECS, Verbal Behavior Training, VBMAPP, SCERTS, TEACCH, and Early Start Denver Model
When I am not working, I spend my free time with my family, enjoying the outdoor spaces of Colorado, and weightlifting. I believe there is always room in my life for personal growth and am always actively seeking to learn new things.
I was raised in the Chicago suburbs and moved to Colorado in 1994. I love traveling, cooking, skiing and hiking with my teenage daughters.
In 1992, I received my Master's Degree in Communication Disorders from Northwestern University. My experience ranges from birth through middle school. I have experience treating children with Down Syndrome, stuttering difficulties, receptive/expressive language impairments, Autism Spectrum Disorder, cognitive disabilities and social communication impairments.
As my experience increased, I pursued additional training treating students with cognitive impairments and Autism Spectrum Disorder. My training includes: Social Thinking, VBMAPP, TEACCH, and The Communication Matrix. I also work with students who are non-verbal utilizing high and low technology, including LAMP (Language Acquisition through Motor Planning) and PECS.
My therapy is evidence based and family focussed. It includes play based and functional therapy techniques.
